album: “Fashion in Gastown”

Awhile back I headed to Gastown to do a photoshoot with Samantha Winfield. I had a general idea of what I wanted to achieve with the shoot and I had a few locations which I wanted to check out.
The first location was a back alley. I know I know, these alleyways have been done to death. But there’s good reason for it. They’re full of character and each one has it’s own unique features. The alley I chose had some cool brick walls and metal bars over the windows which made for some nice angles. We shot in mid-afternoon and caught the sun just before it ducked behind the buildings-making some great shadows in the windows but creating a challenge in lighting Sam (we used a reflector).
The second location, the doorway of a restaurant, was fantastic as well. The windows especially made for some beautiful reflections of the trees behind me. Sam did an great job posing in front of them, using her arms to work with the lines of the door. The biggest trick here was not catching myself or cars in the window’s reflection.
The last location was the one I had planned on heading to. A few weeks prior I worked on the set of a Mini Series that was filming at a loft in Chinatown. While all the filming took place inside the loft I noticed the back of the building would make the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot. The blue wooden frame was full of character and created interesting shadows that, in my photos, did not dissapoint. Also, the side of the building made for another good brick backdrop. Being the area that it was, I found a needle stuck inside the broken cement of the brick wall. If you look really closely you can see it in the last photos.

album: “Broken Doll”

The featured image I chose today is of three models posing in front of the media wall after Broken Ghost’s runway show. The models are Kaitlin Sullivan (right), Madison Hamilton (left), and unfortunately I don’t know the girls name on the far left but if anyone knows her please let me know.
During Broken Doll’s show I went on a “skewed” composition kick. Basically I played around with extreme angles for awhile. Check em and let me know what you think!

album: “Vanfashionweek 09 – Porscia”

Saturday November 7th at Vancouver Fashion Week Porscia unveiled her new 2010 spring/summer collection. The show was a hit with attendees and Porscia’s line quickly grabbed the attention of upscale buyer Holt Renfrew. As a media attendee I photographed most of the shows throughout the week and I have to say Porscia’s show was among the most impressive.
